Though we’ve more than tripled our number of stores in the last few years, opening a new region is still a very big deal. So we’re happy to announce that in September our company, many of whose employees came from a nation famously situated on a peninsula, marked a milestone expansion into a famous American peninsula. Often called the Great Lakes State for being surrounded by three of them, Michigan will be Snowfox’s newest region!
This summer we received word from our largest retail partner, Kroger, that we would replace their current supplier in dozens of stores. We humbly accepted this challenge—we’re confident that the right team of managers and franchisees will make our 21st state one of our best!
We’re opening just under 10 stores in a single day in the first phase, followed by another handful of stores two weeks later, so it’s been a challenging undertaking. To that end, we’ve moved one of our most experienced managers, John Jin, from nearby Ohio to open a Michigan office. He’s a perfect fit since he’s been in JFE leadership roles going on four years now. (You can enjoy a detailed profile of John in our September/October 2015 edition).
Most of our scheduled stores are in the Detroit metropolitan area, including suburbs with strong upper-income demographics. Despite inner-city Detroit itself being the focus of somber economic news coverage in recent years, our initial sales projections, based on Kroger’s metro-area performance, are promising. In fact, several of our host grocer’s top-performing stores nationwide are in this division! Even before our planned improvement of the sushi program, customers’ positive response to it over the past year has reportedly kept pace with total store sales.
We look forward to updating you with a special Michigan segment in our next edition of The Snowfox Standard!
